We did something super cool on Tuesday. Of course, we picked the hottest day of the week, but it was a blast and probably a once in a lifetime experience — although, we could do it again every Tuesday in April, May, and September.
So, what did we do? We rode our bikes on the only Formula 1 and MotoGP racetrack in the country — Austin's Circuit of The Americas!

Every Tuesday night in June, September, and October, it is Bike Night on the COTA and cyclists will have the opportunity to navigate COTA’s 3.4-mile circuit from 6 PM to dusk.
We pre-registered for the event, which is a must, and when we got to COTA, we got our wristbands and we were ready to go. There were no lines and everything was very well organized.

Besides ours, there weren’t many kids, but we saw some riding even bikes with training wheels. I would just recommend to have the kids drive on the very right and not swerve. Most bikers are “professionals” with “real” bikes, who go much faster than the average biker and some may underestimate little kids.
They handed out free water bottles on the track, which was very nice. Especially it being 101 degrees at 8pm. Still, make sure to bring plenty of water.

You can stop on the sidelines whenever you want, to take a break, drink some water, take cool pictures, or just enjoy the view. We could even see the Austin skyline, although it was a little hazy.
We did two rounds and according to my 7-year old, we were there for 51 minutes and 8 seconds.
When we left, everybody was exhausted, but super happy. We highly recommend this experience.

A few things to know before you go:
COTA Bike Night Registration
Riders should register online prior to the event. Adult registration costs $15 (plus fees online) and rates increase for on-site registration. Children 12 and under can join the fun for $8 (plus fees online). Make Bike Night a tradition by purchasing a season pass online for $120 (plus fees, not available on-site) by April 28. Online registration for the event closes at 5PM on Tuesday.
Bikes & Helmets
This is a bring-your-own-bike event. Bikes will not be available for rent. No roller blades, skateboards, electric skateboards or electric uni-cycles.
Wearing a helmet is highly encouraged, and all riders must sign an online waiver. Riders age 18 and younger are required to wear a helmet.
Food & Drinks
Before and after the ride, cyclists can replenish and recharge with a socially distant tailgate with fellow riders in our Paddock parking lot. There are food trucks on site (credit & debit cards only-no cash please). Bring your folding chairs!
Free bottled water is available on Pit Lane and on the track.
Safety and Social distancing
Participants are encouraged to wear masks when not riding and when interacting with individuals not from your household, and to practice a minimum of six feet of social distancing at all times.

Enjoy the ride!
